The Selection Process
Members of Digital Partners India's Executive Corps of leaders
in IT and business conduct the selection process. These individuals
choose the entrepreneurs who will participate in the SEI process
based upon the criteria mentioned above, as well as Digital
Partners India's ability to provide the kind of mentoring
assistance that the social entrepreneur will benefit from
(e.g., business plan development).
The Mentoring Program
An integral part of the Social Enterprise Incubator is
the mentoring program, which offers entrepreneurs assistance
to design, deploy, incubate, and scale their projects. Mentoring
is provided by teams of professionals from selected graduate
schools and industry. The nature of the assistance is tailored
to the needs of each individual social entrepreneur after
an initial needs assessment. The primary focus is to provide
support necessary to:
|
|
Effectively incorporate market
mechanisms into their ICT-enhanced enterprise.
|
|
|
Develop efficient implementation
strategies.
|
|
|
Re-write their proposals into business
plans capable of convincing potential financial supporters
of the project's viability, impact, and sustainability.
|
Seed Funding
Throughout the SEI process, Digital Partners India tries
to match participants with appropriate sources of funding.
Although we cannot guarantee seed capital to all finalists,
in 2001-2002, for example, entrepreneurs were introduced
to major foundations, government donors, corporations, and
venture capitalists around the world resulting in more than
a dozen funding matches.
At the conclusion of the SEI process, Digital Partners
India awards seed funding to a select number of projects
it deems to have the greatest chances of success based upon
projected social benefit and capacity to achieve sustainability.
